More and more people are turning to motorcycles as a fun, inexpensive means of transportation. Unfortunately, other drivers often fail to watch for motorcyclists and accidents where drivers turn in front of motorcycles, pull out into traffic in front of motorcycles or change lanes into the cyclist are common. The same open design that makes motorcycle riding so exciting for many can lead to tragic injuries. With little to no protection to the motorcyclist during an impact, fractures, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and even death are much more likely for a motorcyclist involved in a collision than for a driver or a passenger in a car or truck.
Although a motorcyclist's injuries are often more severe, they are not afforded the same benefits under the no-fault law as a driver or a passenger of an automobile. This can leave an injured cyclist without the benefit of compensation for lost wages or medical expenses. However, unlike the occupant of an automobile, a motorcyclist need not prove that he has suffered a "serious injury" under the law and may pursue a claim against a negligent driver who caused the accident to recover for lost wages, medical bills, pain and suffering as well as the permanent effect of his or her injuries
