MONSANTO ON TRIAL – CANCER LINKED TO POPULAR WEED KILLER ROUNDUP®

Roundup Weed & Grass KillerMore than 9,300 people have filed suit against Monsanto Company after they or their loved ones developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  The suits allege that exposure to Roundup® herbicide caused them to become ill and that Monsanto covered up the risks. Attorneys have cited to internal Monsanto records that purportedly show the company has manipulated and corrupted the scientific record with regard to the herbicide’s safety.

The active chemical in Monsanto’s Roundup® is glyphosate. In July of 2015 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) issued a final health assessment of glyphosate determining it is a Group 2A agent “probably carcinogenic to humans”.  The IARC specifically linked exposure to Roundup® to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, including its various subtypes such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, hairy cell leukemia, lymphocytic lymphoma and others.

There are many different types of Roundup® on the market.  Roundup® generally falls into one of two types: concentrated or pre-mixed. Concentrated Roundup ® contains a higher percentage of glyphosate than pre-mixed versions of the product.

Of the thousands of cases, more than 10 trials are on track to begin in 2019 and 2020. In a historic verdict in August of 2018, a jury ruled that Monsanto caused a man’s terminal cancer. The chemical giant was ordered to pay $289 million to a school groundskeeper who developed terminal cancer after years of using Roundup®.  This historic decision paved the way for thousands of other individuals and families to seek justice.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after significant exposure to Roundup® products, the personal injury attorneys at Lacy Katzen may be able to assist you.
