In the third case concluding that Roundup can cause cancer, jurors awarded a California couple $2 billion in damages against its manufacturer, Monsanto. Alva and Alberta Pilliod, a couple in their 70s, argued that years of use of Monsanto’s Roundup® herbicide caused them each to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Pilliods testified that they sprayed Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup on their three properties for weed control over a period of more than 30 years. Both eventually developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer. Alva was diagnosed in 2011 and Alberta was diagnosed in 2015.
