The law firm is committed to providing high quality legal representation to individuals and families whose lives have changed due to serious injuries suffered as a result of automobile accidents, defective products, hazardous property, work place accidents, medical and hospital negligence, and nursing home neglect.
“We see personal injury cases as an important opportunity to help clients, often when people are in the greatest need of legal help — at the most difficult point of their lives, when their livelihood or good health has been taken away, and they need representation to right a wrong,” says Managing Partner, Peter T. Rodgers. “Our work in this practice area reflects the highest standards of professionalism and service to clients.”
Personal injury law is “a challenging area of legal practice,” says Jacqueline Thomas, a partner in the Personal Injury practice group. “In today’s complex legal and medical environments, experience in this area of practice is increasingly important to clients undergoing a crisis.”
Over the years, the firm has handled thousands of personal injury cases. “We only take those cases that are meritorious,” noted Mr. Rodgers. “There has to be real wrongdoing to the client. In fact, we often advise people not to initiate a case, because we will not take frivolous cases.”
Mr. Rodgers and Ms. Thomas offer extensive legal experience to their clients. Admitted to the practice of law in 1977, Mr. Rodgers is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He was selected for membership in the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates and holds a “AV” rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He has served as a Trustee of the Monroe County Bar Association and Chair of its Courts Committee. He previously served as President of the Genesee Valley Trial Lawyers Association. He recently completed a six-year term as a member of the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Seventh Judicial District. In 2002, he was appointed Chair of the Committee by the Appellate Division, Fourth Department. He serves as a Trustee of McQuaid Jesuit High School. Jacqueline Thomas was admitted to the practice of law in 1992. She is a cum laude graduate of the Albany Law School, where she was elected to membership in the prestigious Justinian Society. She received the West Publishing Award for outstanding scholastic achievement. She is a member of the New York State and American Trial Lawyers Associations and serves as a Trustee of Aquinas High School.

While representing many individuals seriously injured in automobile accidents, the firm is among only a few Rochester law firms practicing medical and hospital negligence law.
Before accepting a medical or hospital negligence case, the firm engages in a thorough and painstaking investigation, including medical research, fact-checking and reviews by outside medical experts. The firm collects medical records, with the authorization of the patient or family, and has the records carefully reviewed by medical practitioners to carefully assess the care received by the patient. The records are reviewed to determine if there has been a departure from the medical standard of care in the treatment rendered to a patient.
Examples of medical and hospital cases handled by the firm include failures to timely diagnose and adequately treat cancers, heart disease and infectious disease processes resulting in death. Other examples include surgical, obstetrical and radiological negligence.
“We only accept a case after a rigorous review process and only when there has been significant injury or death to our client,” says Mr. Rodgers. Once the firm accepts a medical case, it devotes the full resources of the firm to carrying out the necessary research and service on behalf of the client. “Our work in this practice area reflects the highest standards of professionalism and service to clients,” Mr. Rodgers says.
